India has sharply reduced its defense equipment orders from Russia and is now purchasing more from Western suppliers.

Axar.az informs that this information was reported by Bloomberg.

It was stated that only 36% of India’s arms were imported from Russia last year, while in 2009, this figure was 76%. This marks a significant political shift for a country that has traditionally relied on Russian arms supplies.

According to senior Indian officials, India and Russia’s plans to jointly develop and manufacture helicopters and advanced fighter jets were shelved some time ago.

Additionally, there are indications that India will not proceed with the proposal to lease a a nuclear-powered submarine from Russia to train Indian crew, as Delhi is now building its own vessels.
