UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has confirmed the appointment of Labour politician, former minister, and EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson as the next ambassador to the United States.

Axar.az reports that the 71-year-old Mandelson will assume his role early next year.

"The United States is one of our most important allies and as we move into a new chapter in our friendship, Peter will bring unrivalled experience to the role and take our partnership from strength to strength," the Prime Minister said in his statement.

This appointment has drawn interest, especially as the British leader has faced criticism from Donald Trump's close ally, Elon Musk. Mandelson will replace Karen Pierce, the current ambassador in Washington, known for her strong ties with Trump's team.
