The new Syrian authorities are sending signals that they are interested in maintaining Russia's presence on the territory of the republic.

Axar.az reports that Vasili Nebenzya, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, said this in an interview with the "Vesti" program.

"Regardless of the regimes in power, Russia and Syria are bound by the bonds of friendship," Nebenzya said.

At the same time, he said that Damascus officials have not yet taken concrete steps in this direction.
