Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati held a phone conversation with Syria’s new leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa.

Axar.az reports that this information was shared on the official X account of the Lebanese government.

During the phone conversation, the two discussed the armed clash that occurred the previous day on the Syria-Lebanon border.

"During the conversation, Ahmad al-Sharaa confirmed that the relevant Syrian authorities were doing everything necessary to restore calm along the border and promised to prevent the recurrence of such incidents," the statement said.

It is worth noting that on January 3, four Lebanese soldiers were injured during a clash with a group of armed Syrians attempting to enter Lebanon in the eastern Baalbek region. The gunmen attacked the army patrol with grenade launchers in response to warning shots. It was determined that they were in contact with smugglers coming from the Sirghaya border post with Syria. After the shooting, additional security measures were implemented by the army units in this part of the border. In response, Damascus sent mechanized military units to the border, and after that, the firing stopped in Lebanese territory.
