Lithuania has spent 500,000 euros to distribute iodine tablets to the population due to the risk of an accident at the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

Axar.az reports that this information was provided by the country's Ministry of Health.

It was noted that 5 million iodine tablets have been purchased to protect the thyroid gland.

These tablets are intended for more than 1 million people living within a 100 km radius of the power plant. The tablets are being distributed for free at designated pharmacies.

This initiative is being organized for the second time. The first distribution took place in 2020.
