TikTok will be banned in the US on 19 January - unless the Supreme Court accepts a last ditch legal bid from its Chinese owner, ByteDance, that to do so would be unconstitutional.
Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that a federal ban will come into effect on this date, unless the Supreme Court moves to block it.
TikTok’s U.S. shutdown on January 19 follows ByteDance's failure to sell its U.S. assets, as mandated over national security concerns.
The law would mandate a ban only on new TikTok downloads on Apple or Google app stores, while existing users could continue using it for some time.
Creators are expressing frustration, saving content, and redirecting followers. Some explore Chinese platforms like RedNote, while others accuse ByteDance of caving to government pressure.
The Supreme Court may still intervene, and President Trump reportedly considers action to prevent the ban. If implemented, users will see a shutdown notice on opening the app, with over 170 million U.S. users affected.
