Syria opens doors to foreign investment

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani announced plans to open Syria's economy to foreign investment, focusing on sectors like industry and tourism.

Axar.az reports that speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he revealed ongoing efforts to establish energy and electricity partnerships with Gulf States.

"Syria's economic resources are diverse and we have a lot of sectors - industry, tourism... of course, the economy in the future will be open and will open the road for foreign investment," he said at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Earlier this month, Shibani visited Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar to strengthen ties.
He also highlighted Syria’s intention to hold a national dialogue to draft a new constitution, involving representatives from all societal groups, as part of an inclusive political transition. The process aims to pave the way for free and fair elections, restoring Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

UN Syria envoy Geir Pedersen echoed these sentiments in a separate press conference, emphasizing the need for an inclusive transition. Both officials urged the international community to lift sanctions on Syria, which they argue hinder reconstruction and recovery.
