The Paris City Council has granted honorary citizenship to Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoghlu, who was arrested in Turkiye and dismissed from his post after a trial.

Axar.az reports that the Figaro newspaper published information about this.

The relevant decision was unanimously adopted at a meeting of the City Council.

According to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Imamoghlu is unfairly prohibited from representing his party and speaking on behalf of millions of Turks, so he can expect full support from Paris:

“Receiving the title of honorary citizen will give İmamoğlu the strength to resist and force the Turkish authorities to listen to the voice of democratic reason.”

It should be noted that Anne Hidalgo is well known to Azerbaijanis for her special love for Armenians and her attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan. This mayor was especially “activated” after the 44-day war, came to our border, and brought “humanitarian aid” to the Armenians in Karabakh.

Hidalgo is someone who has an anti-Azerbaijani, anti-Turkish stance, extensive ties to the "Hayastan" foundation, and serves the Armenian diaspora. His defense of Imamoghlu is very thought-provoking.
