A ceremony to raise the new Syrian flag was held at the UN headquarters in New York.

Axar.az reports that the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian transitional government, Assad al-Sheibani, attended the event.

UN employees, diplomats, and media representatives also attended the ceremony.

The new flag has a different design compared to the green, white, and black flag with three red stars that the Syrian opposition has used since 2011. Supporters of the Syrian government gathered in front of the UN headquarters during the ceremony.

After the ceremony, Assad al-Sheibani will attend a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the country.
