France will open a consular agency in Goris, Armenia.
Axar.az informs French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced during a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
“In the field of decentralized cooperation, an Armenian-French decentralized cooperation conference will soon be held in the city of Goris, in the Syunik region, which is important cooperation between our two countries. It is also a political message that the event will take place in Syunik, in Goris, where France will also open a consular agency,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Hraparak daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows: "While the RF [i.e. the Russian Federation] has been trying to establish a consulate in Syunik [Province of Armenia] since 2023 and the RA authorities are torpedoing it with various pretexts, the desire expressed by France months ago will be brought to fruition in the coming days.
An Armenian-French forum will be held in Goris [city] on June 2, and the opening ceremony of the French consulate in Syunik will be on the same day [in Goris]. (…) Karmen Apunts, the president of the “Union of French Speakers of Goris” NGO, will be appointed consul.
Expert circles have already managed to express the opinion that “the French consulate in Syunik will have a strictly military—intelligence—purpose, which will serve the collective West.”
