NATO countries are ready to make concessions to Donald Trump during the alliance's summit in The Hague next week. One of those concessions concerns Ukraine.
Axar.az reports, citing Politico.
According to the report, NATO leaders are ready to commit to increasing their defense spending to 5% of GDP:
"This is exactly what Trump, who has criticized Europe for not contributing enough to the common defense, has repeatedly demanded. While this may seem like a victory for Trump, there is no guarantee that he will be satisfied. There is wide disagreement among Europeans about the date by which this commitment should be fulfilled. Some European countries want it to be set as a target for the next few decades, while Trump probably expects to reach the 5% of GDP target in the coming years. Despite numerous disagreements, there is agreement among Europeans that ensuring Trump's satisfaction with this NATO summit is the most important thing for them, especially in the context of Russia's aggression in Ukraine and the shift of America's attention to Asia and the Middle East. Another fundamental concession to Trump was the refusal to hold a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council."
