WHO warns of Marburg virus outbreak

After the first cases of the Marburg virus were confirmed in Rwanda, the world is facing a potential risk of epidemic spread.

Axar.az reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning about this. The Marburg virus, which belongs to the same family as the Ebola virus, can cause severe hemorrhagic fever in humans.

Currently, more than 27 infections and nine deaths have been reported. The WHO assesses the risk of this epidemic as very high at the national level, high at the regional level, and low at the global level.

According to current information, most of the infections have been recorded among healthcare workers at two medical facilities in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. The Marburg virus infection is fatal in 88% of cases.
