A case of monkeypox virus infection has been detected in Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that the Ministry of Health and TABIB released information about this.

It was noted that a 22-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan went on a tourist trip to a foreign country on January 2-11, and a few days after returning from there, he applied to one of the clinics operating in Baku with weakness, fever, watery rashes in the genital area, enlarged lymph nodes, and muscle pain.

According to the report, the infectious disease doctor suspected the infection of the monkeypox virus based on the patient's symptoms, and as a result of collecting the patient's medical history, he determined that he had contact with a person with a rash during his visit to another country.

It was reported that the presence of an epidemiological relationship along with the symptoms was the basis for taking a test for laboratory examination, and the result of the PCR examination of the swab taken from the patient's rash in the laboratory was positive for the monkeypox virus.

Currently, the patient is hospitalized and receiving treatment in the hospital.

"Since the family members who were in contact with the patient did not have any symptoms of illness, they were observed at home by the staff of the outpatient medical institution and sanitary-epidemiological service serving the area, they were prescribed preventive treatment and provided with medicines. Treatment and observation measures will be continued until the end of the incubation period of the disease", - it was stated in the joint information.
