Azerbaijani President approves law increasing retirement age

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree approving the law proposing amendments to the law on labor pension.

The law on amendments was adopted by the Azerbaijani Parliament on March 10, 2017.

98 amendments were proposed to the law.

According to the amendments, labor pension age limit was increased for all professions, except for police and military personnel. The length of service for civil servants was increased from 15 to 20 calendar years, for prosecutors from 25 to 35 years, and for other professions by 5 years in an appropriate manner. The retirement age was increased and differentiated with the required labor pension age limit.

The base pension was abolished.

The retirement age will be raised to 65 years within 4 years for men and 10 years for women. In other words retirement age will be raised by 6 months per year till 2021 for men and till 2027 for women.

The law will come into force by 1 July 2017. The amendments won’t cover already retired persons.
