Frenchman Willy Sagnol has left his position as head coach of the Georgia national football team.

Axar.az reports, citing local media, that the Georgian Football Federation made the announcement on its website.

He has been replaced by Ramaz Svanadze, who will remain in charge until the end of 2028.

It should be noted that Sagnol’s resignation is reportedly linked to Georgia’s 0-1 defeat to Northern Ireland in the national team’s opening Nations League match the previous day. The French coach had been in charge of Georgia since February 2021. Under his leadership, the team played 57 matches and qualified for the European Championship finals for the first time in its history in 2024.
