Iran removed the cleric's name because of Saudi Arabia -

In 2016, Iran again removed the plaque in memory of Sheikh Nimr Baghir al-Nimri, the Shia cleric who was executed by Saudi Arabia.

Axar.az reports that this was reported by Iranian media.

According to information, the reason for this was the visit of the Saudi delegation to Mashhad. It was reported that on the eve of the Arab delegation's visit, the plaque on the street where the Saudi consulate in Mashhad is located was removed.

However, there was no information about changing the name of "Ayatulla Nimr" street.

It should be noted that after Saudi Arabia executed the Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Baghir al-Nimri, the relations between Iran and this country became acute.
