During President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the United States on August 8, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the United States and Azerbaijan on the elevation of US-Azerbaijani relations to the level of strategic partnership.
Axar.az reports that Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, said this in an interview with "Baku TV".
H. Hajiyev noted that one of the conditions of this memorandum of understanding is the establishment of a working group between the two countries and the preparation of proposals on the strategic partnership agenda and the essence of strategic partnership relations:
"The essence of the statement made by the US State Department is that a working group has been established on the US-Azerbaijani strategic partnership. The relevant group also exists in Azerbaijan. Relevant proposals from Azerbaijan have been submitted to the US. As stated in the memorandum of understanding, strategic partnership relations between the US and Azerbaijan, including energy, transport, artificial intelligence, high technologies, defense, security, and other areas, are being considered."
He also said that the official invitation letter from the President of Azerbaijan to participate in the European Political Union summit to be held in Yerevan has not yet been received: "Secondly, in the current circumstances, we do not think that participation in this event at the highest level in Azerbaijan will be implemented."
