Mutual interest must ensure the long-term implementation of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Axar.az informs, citing Armenian media, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Wednesday stated this during the international Orbeli Forum being held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
According to Mirzoyan, fulfilling the agreements is one of the most important issues. Before the publication of the texts of the peace agreement, the Washington declaration, and other signed and ratified documents, conspiratorial ideas and manipulations are being built around them—often deliberately, for domestic political purposes, or by foreign centers—to obstruct the peace process. At a certain point in the process, when people could simply read the texts, everything becomes unclear, leaving the question: what guarantees that everything will work?
“There is a clear guarantee, and it is not the participation of a third country or signatures of third countries, nor of peacekeepers or missions. The guarantee is that what has already been agreed upon and what will be agreed upon is beneficial for Armenia, Azerbaijan, and other countries in the region. Mutual interest must ensure the long-term implementation of the signed peace treaty and the agreement on borders. Armenia has no interest in committing a violation, Azerbaijan should have no interest, and Turkey should have no interest in committing a violation,” the Armenian FM said.
Peace allows for a significant increase in the sovereignty of both Armenia and Azerbaijan and will prevent third countries from using the conflict as a pressure lever, Mirzoyan said, but added that this should not be confused with the mutual relations of countries, as there is no country in the world that is completely independent of others.
