Azerbaijan clears mines, restores safety in liberated areas

To date, Azerbaijan has cleared more than 240,000 hectares of contaminated land and defused more than 227,000 mines and unexploded ordnance since 2020, a significant step towards restoring security and reconstruction in the liberated areas.

Axar.az reports that Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov wrote about this on his X account.

He noted that mine clearance remains essential for the Great Return, the reconstruction of communities, and the protection of civilians:

"Since the end of the war, more than 400 people have been killed or maimed by mines in Azerbaijan, and the total number of victims since the 1990s has exceeded 3,400. Women and children account for a significant proportion of the casualties."
