Azerbaijan-Armenia peace opens EU integration path

The initialing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia has opened the path for Armenia’s integration into the European Union (EU).

Axar.az reports that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made the statement at a press conference in Berlin alongside Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to Merz, the peace process between Yerevan and Baku demonstrates that “joint efforts, diplomacy, and mutual respect can lead to sustainable peace processes.”

He emphasized that the peace with Azerbaijan has been the key factor in opening European prospects for Armenia.

The Chancellor also noted that Armenia’s path to EU membership requires compliance with the Copenhagen criteria.

Pashinyan, in turn, stressed that Armenia greatly values Germany’s support in deepening the partnership with the EU and expressed hope for political support on the “difficult and long road” to EU membership.
