Greenland framework deal: What we know, what we don’t

US President Donald Trump says he has reached a vague “framework of a future deal” on Greenland following talks with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Axar.az reports that Trump claims the framework covers Greenland and the wider Arctic region and led him to withdraw threatened tariffs on eight European countries that opposed any sale of Greenland.

No concrete details of the framework have been made public. Trump described it as a long-term security-focused arrangement and confirmed talks would continue under senior US officials. NATO, meanwhile, signaled plans to increase Arctic security cooperation, with Rutte saying alliance members would act quickly, possibly in early 2026, according to Al-Jazeera.

Greenland’s strategic location, Arctic security concerns, and competition with Russia and China underpin US interest, while questions remain over Greenland’s role in negotiations, the legal scope of any deal, and whether Washington seeks limited territorial control for military purposes.
