The existence of several alternative transport corridors in the South Caucasus will increase interest in the Middle Corridor, creating new economic opportunities for Georgia.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and chairman of the People’s Power Party, Sozar Subari, while commenting on ongoing developments in the South Caucasus, the Zangezur corridor, and Georgia’s transit role.
“Establishing peace in the South Caucasus and the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity are major and significant events for the region. The acceptance of this reality by Armenian society also contributes to regional stability,” the vice speaker emphasized.
Speaking about the Zangezur corridor, Sozar Subari stressed that the main purpose of the route is to connect Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is a completely natural and logical step from a geographical standpoint.
In his view, direct cargo transportation between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the future would also be a normal process, and Georgia would not suffer major revenue losses as a result.
Subari also noted that new transit opportunities extending from Nakhchivan to Türkiye and linking East and West are important for the entire region. Such projects strengthen Georgia’s transit role and contribute to an increase in cargo volumes across all corridors.
