The Trump administration is open to considering a deal that would allow Iran limited, “token” nuclear enrichment — provided it leaves “no possible path to a bomb.”
Axar.az, citing Axios, reports a senior US official said that any proposal must be detailed and prove the program would be “benign,” adding: “If the Iranians want to prevent an attack they should give us an offer we can’t refuse… If they play games there won’t be a lot of patience.”
Publicly, President Donald Trump has maintained a demand for “zero enrichment,” but officials indicated a narrowly defined compromise could be studied if Iran offers verifiable guarantees.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a draft proposal would be finalized within days and described the goal as ensuring Iran’s nuclear program, “including enrichment, is peaceful and would remain peaceful forever.” He called for a “win-win deal” with “confidence-building measures” in exchange for sanctions relief.
At the same time, Trump has been presented with a wide range of military options.
One senior adviser said, “The president hasn’t decided to strike yet… He might never do it. He might wake up tomorrow and say, ‘That’s it.’” The adviser added: “They have something for every scenario. One scenario takes out the ayatollah and his son and the mullahs,” referring to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and his son Mojtaba. Another source confirmed such a plan had been floated.
US officials say they will wait to review Iran’s written proposal before deciding next steps. “We will see what he gives us in writing… The ball is in their court,” the senior official said.
