Azerbaijan, Ukraine FMs hold expanded talks

A meeting between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Ukraine has begun in Kyiv.

Axar.az reports that according to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha are holding a one-on-one meeting.

In the framework of his official visit to Ukraine, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan had an expanded meeting with Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan made the announcement on its X account.

Ministers reviewed progress in implementing the agreements reached by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine following President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Azerbaijan.

They discussed the Azerbaijan-Ukraine strategic partnership, trade, energy, investment, transport, humanitarian and multilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international security issues.

They emphasized the importance of regular high-level contacts and the role of bilateral mechanisms, including political consultations, the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, and the Business Council, in further expanding cooperation.

Ministers exchanged views on regional developments and current international challenges, in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. FM Bayramov reiterated the importance of the earliest cessation of hostilities, paving the way for a settlement through diplomatic means, based on strict adherence to international law. Azerbaijan’s consistent support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders was highlighted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine conveyed his deepest condolences over the deaths and injuries of Azerbaijani citizens in the Black Sea and Azov Sea as a result of the ongoing military hostilities, extending his sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.

Ministers also highlighted Azerbaijan’s humanitarian assistance exceeding US$50 million, reconstruction projects in Irpin, rehabilitation programs for Ukrainian children.

FM Bayramov further informed his counterpart on the current situation in the South Caucasus, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the territories liberated from occupation.
