Aliyev: We must know and never forget our history

We must know history as it truly was; we must not forget it, and we must never allow attempts to distort history.

Axar.az reports that President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks in an interview with Azerbaijan Television.

“Back then — on November 9, after Shusha was liberated from occupation — trilateral negotiations were being held through the mediation of the President of Russia. I insisted firmly that the statement to be signed must explicitly include a corridor connecting the main part of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The Armenian side did not want to agree to this. However, it did not have many alternatives either. If the war had continued, of course, we would have suffered losses as well, but Armenia would have suffered greater losses. Because their troops were almost surrounded, and it was actually entirely possible to destroy them.

Therefore, even though they did not want to, Armenia agreed to this, and that statement is well known to everyone; there is a specific provision in it,” Aliyev said.
