Palestinian Embassy thanks Azerbaijan for its support

Palestine's presence in Azerbaijan has expanded significantly throughout 2026.

Axar.az reports, citing APА, that according to a statement from the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Azerbaijan, this increased activity reflects the shared determination to create new opportunities for cooperation and further develop relations based on the existing friendship between the State of Palestine and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It was recalled that on August 3, 2026, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree approving the Protocol on the provision of financial assistance to the Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Republic of Azerbaijan, which was signed between the foreign ministries of the two countries on July 10 of the same year.

"This step is regarded as support for the continuity of the embassy's activities and its ability to continue coordinating bilateral relations and joint initiatives," the statement said.

It was noted that, according to official information released in July 2026, the number of Palestinian students studying in Azerbaijan stood at 37. Of these, 23 are studying under the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant Programme.

The statement also emphasized that in September 2025, the evacuation of 14 Palestinian students from the Gaza Strip was organized to enable them to continue their education in Azerbaijan.

The embassy's statement highlighted that on May 10, 2024, Azerbaijan voted in favour of a UN General Assembly resolution confirming the State of Palestine's eligibility for membership and recommending that the Security Council reconsider its application favourably. Azerbaijan also supported the adoption of the New York Declaration on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution on September 12, 2025. This position was consistently reaffirmed at official meetings and on multilateral platforms in 2026.

"Based on all these positions of support and initiatives, the Embassy of the State of Palestine expresses its deep thanks and gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Government of Azerbaijan, and the friendly Azerbaijani people for their support for the Palestinian people and the attention and cooperation shown to Palestinian students and delegations.

"The embassy highly values these friendly relations and is confident in the opportunities to further develop them based on the principles of mutual respect and continued cooperation. Palestine's growing presence in Palestine-Azerbaijan relations, along with sustained political, institutional and cultural ties, lays the groundwork for a deeper stage of cooperation between the two countries," the statement said.
