Moroccan media reported that the UAE ambassador to Rabat, Ali Salem al-Kaabi, left Morocco on the basis of an "urgent sovereign request" from Abu Dhabi.

Axar.az reports citing foreign media that the Anatolia news agency quoted media, including the newspaper "Akhbar al-Youm", that al-Kaabi left the Moroccan territory last week back to his country suddenly.

The Moroccan newspaper pointed out that the UAE ambassador, who did not serve for one year, left at the request of the sovereign, without explaining the reasons.

There was no official comment, either by the Moroccan authorities or the UAE, on the news.

On April 8, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held a Gulf tour that included Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar and did not include the UAE.

During the Gulf crisis, Morocco opted for neutrality and offered mediation between the countries of the blockade (the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain along with Egypt) and Qatar.

Relations between the two countries have been strained in recent times by the publication of Saudi media broadcasts from the United Arab Emirates on Western Sahara. In February, the two countries recalled their ambassadors for consultations.
