Armenia is trying to prevent progress - Foreign Ministry

The settlement of the conflict opens new opportunities for regional cooperation, development and prosperity with the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The joint statement of 10 November 2020 was completed, in particular the trilateral Azerbaijan-Russia-Armenia statement of 11 January 2021, which provides for the opening of communications in the region.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov speaking at the 37th meeting of the GUAM Council of Foreign Ministers.

The Minister said that Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia have started working on specific directions for the opening of transport communications in the region:

"Revival of relations will significantly accelerate trade and transport through Armenia and Azerbaijan, which will benefit both these countries and our partners. It will be an important factor in normalization and play a positive role in creating conditions for lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond."

"A tripartite working group on the opening of communications has begun work on specific areas in the region. Although the opening of communications may be an important and possible step forward, Armenia is trying to block progress by using the tactics of obstruction and delay. We are constructively involved in the process. It is clear that the revitalization of communications will significantly increase trade and transport through Armenia and Azerbaijan for the benefit of both these countries and our partners. This will be an important factor in normalization and to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond. It will play a positive role in creating conditions," he said.
