US murderer remains alive after failed lethal injection

Convicted US murderer Christa Pike is unconscious, intubated and on a ventilator after authorities failed to execute her by lethal injection.

Axar.az reports that Pike, 50, was injected with two lethal doses of pentobarbital by Tennessee prison officials on Wednesday but remained alive. She was subsequently transported by ambulance to a hospital.

Pike remains in critical condition and is being treated at a hospital in the Nashville area.

Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer. Her lawyers are now seeking to have her death sentence commuted following the failed execution attempt.

The head of Tennessee’s prison system is also resigning following the failed execution, Gov. Bill Lee announced Saturday.
