Azerbaijan is taking steps to normalize relations with Armenia and sign a peace agreement.
Axar.az informs that the statement came from Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in an interview with the Italian news agency Agenzia Nova, speaking about the dialogue with Armenia to normalize bilateral relations.
According to him, Azerbaijan's position has always been to ensure lasting peace, stability, development and progress based on the principles of international law. At this stage, Azerbaijan, which ended the occupation of its territories and ensured its territorial integrity, is taking steps to normalize relations with neighboring Armenia, sign a peace agreement and take steps in this direction. We are in favor of using all international platforms that can make a real contribution."
The Minister said that Azerbaijan thinks that the Council of Europe can also contribute to the implementation of confidence-building measures. "The first meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society representatives was held recently at the initiative of the Council of Europe Secretary General. There was experience of holding meetings on various platforms. No such meeting was held at the Turin meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, but we believe that in general such international frameworks can make a positive contribution to peace dialogue. ".
Bayramov stressed that the November 10 trilateral statement put an end to military operations between Armenia and Azerbaijan: "Armenian armed forces were withdrawn from Azerbaijani territory and Azerbaijan's territorial integrity was ensured. "We believe that the implementation of the tripartite statements, as well as the agreements reached at subsequent meetings, including the meetings of the leaders of the two countries in Brussels with the participation of the President of the European Union, is very important for peacebuilding in the region."
