The governor of Western Zangezur province, Robert Ghukasyan, claimed to the media today that the Azerbaijani Army "has retreated in some places". He said that although the delimitation process has not started, the Azerbaijani Army has "stepped back" in some areas.
Axar.az reports that Ghukasyan's statement is complete nonsense.
"There is no reason or necessity for the retreat of our army, and no such task has been given. The Azerbaijani Army protects the positions it occupies on the conventional borders of our country, and compromising even one centimetre is not even a matter of discussion," the source stressed.
It was noted that some positions on the border with Armenia were handed over to the State Border Service:
"The Border Service should protect the state border. However, considering that the peace agreement with Armenia has not been signed, all strategic positions in that direction are under the control of our Army."
