The results of the presidential elections held in Russia and Azerbaijan mean that stability in the South Caucasus will remain a priority, and there will still be a chance to establish real peace and prevent instability there.
Axar.az reports that Russian political scientist Dmitry Solonnikov said this while commenting on the results of the presidential election held in Russia and Azerbaijan.
"For Russia, the South Caucasus is a neighbouring region, so peace there is vital for Moscow - especially at a time when there is a bitter conflict between Russia and the West, with Western and pro-Western forces trying to harm Moscow at all levels, including along the perimeter of its borders." against the background of what he has done... the fact that Vladimir Putin was elected for a new term by the Russian people, as well as the fact that he won about 70 per cent of the vote in the polling stations in Azerbaijan and that Ilham Aliyev was one of the first leaders to congratulate his Russian colleague, shows that Putin is strengthening statehood and considers the alliance between Azerbaijan and Russia important." - said.
According to Solonnikov, the words of the President of Azerbaijan while receiving the Russian Prime Minister in Baku are also important:
"He voiced the main idea for relations between Moscow and Baku: Azerbaijan-Russia relations are a factor of stability and security in the South Caucasus. Mishustin's visit to Azerbaijan before the presidential election in Russia was another signal of confidence in Baku. Both Putin and Aliyev are strong leaders, they have friendly relations, and they are masters of their words. Russia and Azerbaijan are united by a common foreign policy approach, and both Moscow and Baku follow the principle of non-hegemony of one power in the world. They have the idea that every country has a sovereign right to choose its development path and no one has the right to oppress anyone. As we remember, Russia reacted quite calmly to Azerbaijan's military return of its occupied lands after regular provocations. "Russia has always recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan."
