On May 29, the leaders and secretaries of commissions of the Parliament of French Polynesia (known as Mā’ohi Nui in the local language) along with the leadership of the ruling "Tavini" party began their visit to Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that the purpose of the four-day visit is to explore opportunities for inter-parliamentary, economic, humanitarian, as well as scientific, educational, sports, healthcare, and other areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and French Polynesia. In this regard, meetings are planned to be held at the National Assembly as well as other state and private institutions.

As part of the visit, a conference on "The Right to Decolonization of French Polynesia: Calls and Perspectives" will also be organized at the National Assembly.

The visit of the delegation from French Polynesia comes at the invitation of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), which is active in combating colonialism and its contemporary manifestations in the 21st century. The visit follows the agreement on cooperation between BIG and the Tavini party, which was signed during an international conference titled "Liberation from Colonization: Consequences of Assimilation and Its Impact on the Implementation of Human Rights," organized by BIG at the Vienna Office of the United Nations on April 30 of this year.

It is worth noting that the Tavini party has been advocating for the independence of French Polynesia from French rule for many years.
