The New People's Front leftist alliance won 182 seats in the second round of the extraordinary elections to the French National Assembly (the lower house of the parliament) held yesterday.

Axar.az informs that "Le Monde" newspaper reported this with reference to the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.

The second place is occupied by the presidential coalition "United for the sake of the Republic", which won 168 mandates. The third largest faction in the lower house of parliament will be the right-wing National Union with 143 seats.

According to the publication, "Republicans" also entered the lower house of the parliament by taking 45 seats. In addition, the new composition of the National Assembly will include 39 representatives of various small right-wing and left-wing associations.

Thus, none of the main political forces gets an absolute majority of mandates, which makes it difficult to form a new government. French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal announced his intention to resign on Monday.

After the defeat of the presidential coalition in the elections to the European Parliament, the President of France Emmanuel Macron has scheduled early elections to the National Assembly on June 9. The first round of elections took place on June 30, and the second round on July 7.
