If an agreement is reached on direct negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, I don't think Russia will interfere in this process.

Axar.az reports that Matthew Bryza, the former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated this

According to him, there is actually nothing new about the idea of bilateral work between Azerbaijan and Armenia:

"The idea of holding direct negotiations between the two countries without any mediator has always been supported by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. I don't think Russia will be irritated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's approach either."

The diplomat noted that relations between Russia and Armenia have been deteriorating for several years:

"Even Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and later the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, criticized Nikol Pashinyan for not opening the Zangezur corridor, which connects the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan. Pashinyan reacted angrily to this and rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin's offer to mediate between Azerbaijan and Armenia."
