Regardless of who is elected as president in the United States, any head of state must act based on the national and security interests of their country. The national and security interests of the United States dictate cooperation with Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus.
Axar.az reports that these remarks were made by political scientist Elkhan Shahinoglu while commenting on the impact of Donald Trump's election as U.S. president on relations with Azerbaijan.
He noted that the U.S. takes Azerbaijan's role in the region into account:
"Of course, the election of Republican Donald Trump as president is more favorable for Azerbaijan. Kamala Harris is closely linked to the Armenian lobby. Although Donald Trump made one or two promises to the Armenians during the election campaign, this was for political purposes, as he sought to win votes. During Trump’s presidency, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity. During that time, Trump sent several letters to President Ilham Aliyev, expressing his interest in the development of relations. For this reason, I believe that during Trump's presidency, there will be a warming of Azerbaijan-U.S. relations. There are certain issues that we can expect to be resolved as well."
It should be noted that in the U.S. presidential election held on November 5, Republican Donald Trump defeated his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
