France has raised its flag over its embassy in Damascus after 12 years.

Axar.az reports that this was announced by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It was noted that prior to this, France had sent a group of diplomats to Syria to assess the political and security situation following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad. However, the diplomats will not remain in Syria, and the raising of the flag over the embassy does not signify the resumption of the embassy's full operations.

France severed diplomatic ties with Damascus in 2012.
