The Armenian government plans to replace the militia system with local defense forces.

Axar.az, citing Armenian media, reports that this was stated by Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Arman Sarkisyan, during a discussion in the parliamentary Defense and Security Committee regarding a draft law to amend the "Defense" law.

According to the draft, local defense forces will be subordinate to the army corps command and integrated into military units as support formations. The duties, functions, management principles, and structure of these forces have also been outlined.
