In Grozny, the "military-related part" of the investigation into the crash of the AZAL aircraft has been classified.
Axar.az reports that this information was shared by the "ВЧК-ОГПУ" Telegram channel.
It was stated that despite the visit of the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, Aleksandr Bastrykin, and experienced investigators from the Committee's central office to the Chechen Republic, all investigative actions related to the military are actually being carried out by investigators from the local 505 VSO (the 505th Military Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee located in Chechnya).
"The crew of the 'Pantsir' combat vehicle, which fired missile strikes at the aircraft, has been interrogated by the department head. As for the dispatched investigators, some of them went to Aktau, where they were authorized to work at the crash site, while others are working in Grozny. They have interrogated the dispatcher and the aerodrome's flight director. For now, the investigation has no questions for the dispatcher and the flight director."
The investigation is also analyzing other factors that may have influenced the crash. For example, before GPS technology became widespread, aircraft landings were conducted using the CGS system (a radio beacon system used for the approach to land an aircraft). This method is still widely used worldwide, but for some reason, during the large-scale reconstruction at the Grozny airport, this system was dismantled," the Russian source emphasized.
It is noted that on December 25, an AZAL aircraft flying from Baku to Grozny was struck by Russian air defense systems over Grozny and sustained significant damage. Since landing was not permitted, the aircraft headed toward Aktau, where it crashed near the Aktau airport. As a result of the crash, 38 out of the 67 people on board were killed, and 29 survived.
