Azerbaijan worried about growing Iran-Russia ties

Azerbaijan has concerns about the growing ties between Iran and Russia.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Matthew Orr, an analyst at the American intelligence and analytical center Stratfor.

He believes that this is another factor that signals to Azerbaijan's leadership that it would be better not to destabilize the situation in order to avoid becoming dependent on these countries, and instead to maintain the current balance in the region.

"The strengthening of cooperation between Russia and Iran creates certain risks for Azerbaijan. I think this is a wake-up call for Azerbaijan," the expert noted.

At the same time, Matthew Orr called Israeli strikes on Iran possible.

According to him, Israel has already carried out strikes on Iran over the past year, and there is information that Iranian air defense and missile defense systems are in a vulnerable state.

"In this case, Israel may think that now is the right time to strike to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Moreover, the current Israeli leadership believes that the Trump administration will be less inclined to oppose Israel's desires on this issue. The Trump administration is against such strikes and large-scale destabilization of the region, but the Israelis may expect that the Americans will not intervene too strongly," the analyst emphasized.
