Yesterday, Putin awarded the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament with the "Order of Friendship". Recently, a monument to Heydar Aliyev was also unveiled in central Moscow. These actions indicate a move towards greater tranquility in the relations between the two countries. With the intensification of bilateral contacts between Russia and Azerbaijan, it can be concluded that consultations have likely taken place between Moscow and Baku, leading both sides to agree to refrain from making negative statements.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Russian political scientist Sergey Markov in an interview with "Moscow-Baku."
"We came to the conclusion that we should not allow the conflict to escalate, and we need to strictly control the situation behind closed doors. I believe this decision was made because it became clear that escalating the situation only harms us. Plus, it is quite obvious that external players are trying to exploit our difficulties and drive us further apart. There are enough interested parties in this. In these circumstances, Moscow and Baku have decided that the problems remain and require serious efforts, serious bilateral work to resolve them, but it is better to curb emotions and negative trends. In other words, there is a clear direction towards smoothing out the differences. It is obvious to both Moscow and Baku that conflict only weakens our countries, conflict harms us. We continue to be, without a doubt, strategic partners, and all projects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation are important for both Russia and Azerbaijan," noted Markov.
