The Trump administration has frozen future federal research grants and aid to Harvard University, amounting to billions of dollars, unless the university complies with a list of demands.
Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that these include addressing alleged antisemitism on campus, ending race-conscious admissions policies, banning DEI initiatives, and hiring more conservative faculty.
U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon stated that no further grants would be issued until Harvard agrees.
Harvard has rejected the demands, calling them unconstitutional overreach, and has filed a lawsuit after $2.3 billion in federal funding was already suspended.
The university argues the cuts threaten vital medical and scientific research and compromise academic freedom.
Though Harvard holds a $53 billion endowment, much of it is restricted and not available for general use. The conflict stems partly from campus unrest tied to the Israel-Gaza war, where Trump has accused pro-Palestinian protesters of antisemitism, a charge many demonstrators, including Jewish participants, reject.
