Azerbaijan and Iran should continue and strengthen economic cooperation.
Axar.az reports that Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, said this at the panel of the Tehran Dialogue Forum.
“We are a happy country developing in the Eurasian region. We have multilateral cooperation relations with Turkiye, Russia, and Iran,” said H. Hajiyev, touching upon the importance of the 3+3 format in this regard.
The Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan noted the importance of increasing the functionality of existing regional organizations in the region, and in this regard, emphasized the Economic Cooperation Organization, the OIC, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation:
“We also cooperate with Iran within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Because the principle of Islamic solidarity is important for us.”
The Assistant to the President said that Azerbaijan and Iran should continue economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations.
H. Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan and Iran have a common historical past, and the two countries can jointly create and develop partnership models:
“We should not allow anyone to create order for us, we should think about prosperity and development ourselves”.
The presidential assistant also spoke about the economic reforms implemented in Azerbaijan and the infrastructure projects of international importance. He emphasized that we should use real opportunities to benefit ourselves and our partners. In this regard, he touched upon the importance of the North-South project, which redraws the Eurasian transport corridor: “We should try to build a new security architecture for ourselves and determine the projects to be implemented”.
H. Hajiyev, in response to a question about Palestine, noted: “The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is one of the most important institutions in existence. Azerbaijan also supports Islamic solidarity based on justice and international law. We support the solution of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state principle, based on the decisions and resolutions of the UN”.
Azerbaijan, based on its distinct geopolitical identity, is actively engaged in diplomatic activities in different regions. Such as the South Caucasus, the Caspian and Black Sea basins, the post-Soviet space, Central Asia, the Middle East, etc.
Also expressing his opinion on the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Presidential Assistant emphasized:
“Now, Azerbaijan has created a new status quo and reality in the region. There are favorable conditions for peace. The victory we have won has come at the cost of the blood of our people. Military elements in the relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, especially military aggression and occupation, have been removed from the agenda. The occupation has ended by military-political means. Azerbaijan wants to lead the region towards peace and stability.
We know that the Constitution is the internal affair of every country, provided that it does not pose a threat to another country and does not have territorial claims. There is still a territorial claim to Azerbaijan in the Armenian constitution, and this provision should be removed. Regional issues should be resolved by the countries of the region themselves. Unfortunately, some foreign forces are trying to interfere in the region and carry out geopolitical intrigues.”
