U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held a phone call on Friday to discuss U.S. tariffs and Israel’s recent strikes on Iran.

Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that Japan reiterated its opposition to the tariffs and insisted on a comprehensive trade agreement, rejecting any partial deal.

The leaders agreed to continue high-level talks to reach a mutually beneficial outcome.

On the Middle East, both sides affirmed the importance of regional stability. Japan condemned Israel’s attacks as escalatory, while the U.S. distanced itself, calling the strikes a unilateral action.

Trump and Ishiba are expected to meet in person next week at the G7 summit in Canada.
