UN condemns attack on Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the latest missile attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

Axar.az reports, citing a statement issued by the Secretary-General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

The statement reads:

"The Secretary-General strongly condemns today's large-scale missile and drone strikes by the Russian Federation on several regions of Ukraine. At least six people were reported killed in the capital, Kyiv, and two in the city of Chornomorsk.

The attacks reportedly resulted in numerous civilian casualties and damage to residential and energy infrastructure, as well as to the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kyiv. Attacks against civilians and infrastructure violate international humanitarian law.

They are unacceptable wherever they occur and must cease immediately. The Secretary-General recalls the principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises. The Secretary-General reiterates his call for a complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine as a first step towards a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, and for the full protection of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, international law and relevant resolutions of the Organization."
