Work is underway to open a direct Baku-Cairo flight.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Azerbaijan, Husameddin Effat Mustafa Reda, in a statement to Report.
The diplomat said that even if 10 million people travel from Azerbaijan to Egypt during the year, this is not enough:
"I think we can offer more, and you have more opportunities. My wish is that Egypt should be one of the main destinations when Azerbaijanis think, "Let's explore the world." At the same time, I want Baku to be perceived as one of the main cities to visit for Egyptians as well."
The ambassador emphasized that they are currently working to make this idea more widely accepted:
"We already have direct flights to Sharm el-Sheikh, and we are currently working with the Azerbaijani government and some private Egyptian companies to open a direct Baku-Cairo flight. Direct connections between Baku and Cairo mean business, academia, culture, and tourism in general. The main point that will bring us closer is that these connections create conditions for short-term cultural exchange programs and trade. If there is a direct flight, travel becomes much easier."
