December 31 is the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
Axar.az reports that this holiday plays an important role in creating bonds of solidarity between Azerbaijanis living in different countries of the world.
The foundation of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis was laid in late December 1989 in Nakhchivan during the collapse of the borders (the USSR-Iranian borders). The border posts between North and South Azerbaijan were destroyed. At that time, a conference of Turkic-speaking peoples was being held in Istanbul. The conference decided to celebrate the solidarity of world Azerbaijanis. On December 16, 1991, the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, then Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Heydar Aliyev, considering the importance of creating unity among world Azerbaijanis, declared December 31 as the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
The Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis is celebrated as a holiday by Azerbaijanis living in all countries of the world. Today is one of the most significant holidays for the Azerbaijani diaspora. The Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis is celebrated even by representatives of the diaspora of Azerbaijani origin, who are not Azerbaijani by nationality, but were born and raised in Azerbaijan.
On September 27, 2020, in response to the military aggression committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan, the people rose in the Patriotic War at the call of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani Army inflicted a heavy defeat on the enemy within 44 days and restored the territorial integrity of the country.
The anti-terrorist operation conducted in September 2023 lasted only one day, or even less. The Azerbaijani Army, showing professionalism and heroism, reached all strategic locations and decided the fate of that operation in a short time, and the enemy army was forced to surrender. Then, on October 15, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev raised the national flag in the city of Khankendi. Ilham Aliyev said in his speech at the military parade held in Khankendi on the occasion of November 8 - Victory Day:
“Thus, we have restored historical justice. September 20, 2023, will remain in our history, just like November 8. On November 8, after the Shusha operation, the enemy army was broken, and a day later, it signed the act of capitulation. On April 23 of this year, we took control of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border in the Lachin direction, fully restoring our territorial integrity, and on September 20, we fully restored state sovereignty. With this, the book of separatists is closed. There will no longer be a place for separatism in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani state controls the entire territory today, and the reasons for this are our brave men and tens of thousands of Azerbaijani servicemen standing on this square today. At the cost of their blood and lives, we achieved this Victory.”
As during the 44-day Patriotic War, the solidarity of Azerbaijanis around the world during the anti-terrorist operation, their close unity around the President of Azerbaijan, is an indication of the existence of unbreakable bonds between the people. Thanks to this unity and the strength gained together, Azerbaijanis today walk headlong in all corners of the world.
