Bob Blackman, a member of the House of Commons and head of the interparliamentary friendship group with Azerbaijan, sent a letter to Javanshir Feyziyev, head of the Azerbaijan-UK working group on interparliamentary relations, on the occasion of Victory Day.
Axar.az informs that the letter expresses regret over the gross violation of the ceasefire by the Armenian armed forces last year, as well as the intensive attack on the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces using large-caliber weapons, mortars and artillery. A member of the House of Commons said he was saddened that people were killed or injured during the conflict. He noted that the bombing of densely populated areas and civilian objects along the front line by the Armenian armed forces was clearly an unnecessary and deliberate step. It was clear to everyone that Armenia's deliberate attack on settlements and civilians was a gross violation of international humanitarian law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The targeting of the civilian population is a tactic included in the combat readiness of the Armenian armed forces, as evidenced by the genocide committed in Khojaly in February 1992.
The letter says that Azerbaijan won its 44-day war, restored its territorial integrity and created a new geopolitical reality in the South Caucasus. The United Kingdom hopes that the new era in Karabakh will be a period of recovery and construction.
