We will promote the historical opportunity for achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Axar.az informs that this was said by Turkish Ambassador to Brazil Halil Ibrahim Akca.
"We firmly believe that the South Caucasus will prosper and achieve the regional progress it deserves based on sustainable peace and stability. Turkiye will continue to undertake its obligations in this regard. We will encourage the use of the historic window of opportunity for lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia," the diplomat noted.
The Turkish ambassador also pointed out his expectations from third parties:
"Our expectation from third parties is to support these positive events in the region by pushing the Armenian side to a constructive dialogue with Turkiye."
H.I.Akcha emphasized that Armenia became an isolated and aggressive country as a result of living in a one-sided, exaggerated, and unrealistic fantasy:
"Right after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Armenia, with its aggressive and ethno-nationalist position, occupied almost a third of the territories of Azerbaijan and forced more than 650,000 Azerbaijani Turks into forced displacement or refugees. As a result of Azerbaijan's liberation of its territories occupied by the Second Karabakh War in 2020, a historic opportunity for lasting peace and stability in the region was created. Currently, the normalization process is underway between Turkiye and Armenia, and the peace process is underway between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Both processes influence each other."
The diplomat said that at such a moment, it is necessary to avoid the negative effects of the activities of radical groups in the Armenian diaspora against the existing initiatives:
"We recently welcomed the agreement reached between the parties on April 19, 2024, regarding the return of 4 villages occupied for 30 years to Azerbaijan and the continuation of delimitation works. This positive development achieved through direct negotiations is an important step towards signing a lasting peace agreement."
