The special units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and Iran conducted joint anti-terrorist exercises in the West Azerbaijan province of Iran.

Axar.az reports that the Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Army of the Islamic Republic, Major General Karim Cheshak, informed about this.

"According to the agreements reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, in order to ensure the security of the Araz River dam, which is threatened by terrorist groups, a one-day anti-terrorist exercise was held in the West Azerbaijan province with the participation of a special forces battalion," he said.

The major general noted that the exercise consisted of four stages, including reconnaissance operations with the participation of drones and helicopters, border patrol operations, ambushes, artillery and airstrikes.

"The implementation of these maneuvers helps to strengthen bilateral relations and ensure security in the region," he added.

It should be recalled that on May 19, with the participation of the Presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan, Ibrahim Raisi and Ilham Aliyev, the "Khudafarin" and "Giz-Galasy" hydroelectric complexes located on the Araz River on the Iran-Azerbaijan border were put into use.
